The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society works to make the best match possible between people and pets. We are always working to place animals in responsible, loving homes. Each adopted animal is spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated against rabies and distemper. Cats are tested for feline leukemia and dogs are tested for heartworm. Treatment for fleas and intestinal parasites is administered if needed. Adopters will receive a sample of Science Diet pet food (which is what animals are fed at the shelter) or a $5 coupon for purchase of Science Diet, and 30 days of free pet insurance.
A valid and current photo ID is required to adopt any animal. Most importantly, plan to spend some time with us getting to know your new pet. If you are interested in adopting a dog, an adoption counselor will take you to an outdoor pen to meet him/her. We want to make sure whomever you choose will be the right match for you.
If you are interested in adopting a dog and would like to complete the profile in advance, you can download and print it here. If you are adopting a cat, s/he must leave the shelter or adoption center in a carrier. You may bring your own or purchase one in Nipper's Nook, our pet supply and gift shop. Gently used carriers may also be available for a donation.
Plan to bring everyone who lives in your household along so everyone can meet your new pet. If you have a dog at home and are planning to adopt a dog, it is important that you bring your dog to meet the new dog.
If you rent your home, please check with your landlord before coming to the shelter or adoption center to make sure you are familiar with their pet policies.

Adoption fees vary based on age, breed and a variety of other factors. Please see individual animal profiles on our adoptable animal page for specific pricing.
